Although my legal name is Patricia Kay Johns, I have gone by my initials “PK”, for most
of my life. Born in
Minnesota and raised in Nebraska, I attended college in Indiana before I
decided to trade the Midwest for the Southwest.
I started in Dallas where I became employed by Southwest Airlines
when they were still a very young company.
As they expanded into new cities, I volunteered to move to the
“West Texas town of El Paso” as a sales representative in 1977.
In a very short time I developed an affinity for this part of the
country that led me to believe I had to have lived here in another life!
After leaving Southwest Airlines, I became Director of Donor
Resources with United Blood Services in El Paso.
My department of four people was responsible for organizing blood
drives that would provide a stable blood supply for all of west Texas
and southern New Mexico. I
found this responsibility to be both rewarding and challenging.
If you think it is difficult to get people to part with their
money, try getting their blood!
When my husband and I started a family, I elected to become a
stay-at-home mom. After our
four children were born, we decided to purchase a ranch in Nogal, New
Mexico. We moved there in
1995 and quickly became dedicated New Mexicans.
Our children became what I refer to as “country snobs” (the
worst thing they could call each other was a “city kid”), and I
became a “soccer mom” and eventually, President of the PTA.
I have also been a member of the Canyon Cowbells for 11 years
where I served as secretary for four of those years.
My oldest child, a daughter, graduated from NMMI in 2005 and
entered Princeton University last fall on an ROTC scholarship.
My second child, a son, is a senior at Capitan High School and my
other daughter and son are at NMMI as a junior and freshman
respectively. So, in an
attempt to fill the “emptying nest”, I earned my real estate license
this past Spring and joined the Prudential Lynch Realty group to pursue
yet another career. This one
satisfies a love I have had since a child—looking at houses!
I have lived in Nogal, participated in organizations in Carrizozo,
had children in school in Capitan, all the while experiencing Ruidoso as
our “big city”. I now
live in Ruidoso, actually Alto, so you could say that I “know Lincoln
County”! If you would like
to explore the county with me or just “look at houses”, please give
me a call.
